Loving her right here, right now July 5, 2010

We didn’t tell her what to think
Or any rules to follow

We didn’t tell her what to feel
Or how to anger swallow

We couldn’t teach her to be real
And not to feign emotion

We couldn’t tell her how Life is
We let go of that notion

But in the end we knew that she
Would get just what she needed

By loving her right here, right now
This moment . . . then repeat it

Even though I used “her” in this poem, we won’t know if our baby is a boy or a girl until he/she is born. The poem was created out of our firm intention to give our child the opportunity to evolve into exactly who he or she is meant to be, rather than who Shonnie and I might want the child to be.
